We Feed You Shit
by Byron on February 28, 2014
Decker,
I want to apologize for what we feed you. It isn’t actually shit, and your Mom and I try. However, I keep getting this sneaking suspicion that 25 years from now, we’re all going to know how terrible the food we’re eating is. It’s full of preservatives and ingredients that aren’t actually food but are, instead, chemicals.
For example, this morning, I was working out with Jeff, my personal trainer and Mom brought you down to say goodbye to me before you left. You were eating a waffle.
Are waffles terrible? Are they “shit?” Maybe not, but maybe. We think of them as no big deal. It’s not like you’re having three waffles with butter and syrup every morning. However, we are setting your body up for carb addiction. And we are forcing your body to process things that nature may not have planned for. Unfortunately, this is a reality of the society we live in.
I’m trying to do things differently, now that I have a little bit of knowledge. To some degree, I was set up for failure by our government and the food industrial complex. For example, the food guide pyrmid is probably bullshit. Yet it was introduced by the Department of Agriculture. It almost certainly plays a hand in health problems and increased diabetes.
But just because others did things wrong, doesn’t mean I don’t now control my own choices.
We’re going to do our absolute best to not screw you up too bad. We will have healthy foods in the house and not have you eating too much shit. Then, eventually, you’ll be making your own choices with no one else to blame.
At first, it’s tough not to have anyone else to blame. You will get through it though. I can help you. It’s been a long road for me to get to an understanding that I am responsible for how I feel and how I react. In food and in life.
I love you, Decker.
Dad
Ps. Three months until your baby brother is here.
Pps.
